I don’t think it comes as a huge surprise; I love my mountains. From where I grew up, everyone can come home with great panoramas and wide views of magnificent mountains. Therefore I wanted to change things up a bit, and focus on the narrower details of the mountainscape this year.
A few years ago they established a gondola in my hometown, and this gondola takes you up Mt. Roalden to the pavilion below the summit of Roaldshorn. From here you can enjoy the view of the fjords and mountains that has amazed so many of us. The view has been posted on Instagram so many times, and it’s really difficult to not get a decent image from here.
If you look a bit closer, there’s a lot of interesting compositions to find that does not involve the same view as everyone else captures. For instance there is the mountain Skurahornet with lake Skuravatnet below. I was really lucky with the light this day as the clouds gave a contrasty and interesting feel to the image.
I just have to say that I love this image. It shows the steep stony mountains all the way from the foreground stones to the background mountainscape. I’ve hiked all over this image, and it really brings back a lot of nice memories. I also love the drama of the light, it’s very much how I saw the scene as I shot it.
Going close gave me a lot of images that set themselves apart from images I have gotten from the same viewpoint earlier. I can really recommend it if you are shooting the same view often. Try to find new compositions by just looking through a different lense or zooming in.
