Easter is usually packed full with traditions for us. 99% of the years since my wife and I met we’ve spent Easter with my family in Sunnmøre. It’s skiing, outdoor adventures, board games, easter eggs, quiz and a lot of amazing food. And then some.
This year however we decided to change things up. Mostly because Easter was so late this year, skiing was out of the question. But also because we wanted to experience something else together. So the first days of Easter we met up with my mum and her husband to “do” Trondheim in 48 hours. And we really did!
I’m so impressed with my boys
Ok, this is going to be a bit of a bragging section, so if you’re not into that, skip this section. But I just have to say: I’m so impressed with my boys!
We had planned some activities that wouldn’t necessarily suit our boys (age 6 and 10). Visiting museums that depended heavily on reading and looking, less on engaging activities for kids. Going to the Nidaros Cathedral. Walking a lot around town and eating at restaurants with no play area.
This may sound like something that any child should be able to do, but our boys are high energy kids that need to move around and rarely are quiet. We sometimes joke about how people must feel like the circus landed whenever we enter a store or a restaurant. So we were a bit unsure of how this would play out.
But they were brilliant. Interested and engaged in conversations with the museum hosts. Amazed and composed when visiting the cathedral. And best of all; they really had a great time with all the new impressions.
The mountains were calling
After a few days of urban vacationing the mountains did start to call however. And the rest of Easter we spent at Savalen. Cabin life is great all year around.
The boys continued to build on their treehouse, we hiked up the ski slopes where the snow had already melted and went to the beach to play in the sand. No, we did not swim, the lake is still mostly ice. Yes, we have heard of the super trendy ice bathing. Still no.
Easter flew by, and we had to conclude that doing things differently was refreshing. However we did miss all the people we didn’t get to see this Easter, so we can’t wait to see them all in Sunnmøre this summer!
Waving goodbye
As Easter ended I waved goodbye to my wife and the boys. I’m spending the next week alone at the cabin. Logged on during office hours, and totally logged off once work is done. More on that experience to come.
I hope you all have the best of Easters!
All the best,
Tonje
