We didn’t know if we’d have any holiday visitors this year. So I loved that we were able to have my mother and her husband for a visit this weekend.

The importance of grandparents
I had a close relationship to my grandparents as a child. I was lucky enough that my mothers parents lived in the same village as I grew up in, meaning that I got to spend a lot of time with them. When I was supposed to be in kindergarten I chose to spend my days with my grandfather instead part of the time. Once I started school I regularly went to my grandparents house to wait for my parents to finish work. My grandparents were a part of my everyday life, and I think my childhood was richer because of it.
Now it’s not possible for all grandparents to be part of their grandkids everyday lives. My generation have moved away from where we grew up to a great extent, resulting in a greater geographical distance from grandparents to grandchildren. However it doesn’t mean they can’t have a tight relationship. We’re so happy our boys get to spend as much time with their grandparents, even if we’d love for them to see each other even more often than they do now. Because we think grandparents can play a very important role in kids lives. And because we think it’s good for our kids to spend time with people from different generations. Not to mention because they love each other, and it’s nothing more valuable than to spend time with those we love.
Looking forward to more time together in 2021
I’m not writing a long and soppy post today. I just wanted to emphasize how happy we are that we got to spend time with family this weekend, and how important it is for us to see how much joy our boys express from having our holiday visitors here. We hope to see all of our family much more often when this whole COVID-19 thing has settled.
